Residents & Volunteer Commitment
RESIDENT PROFILE
Not exclusive by designating age or abilities, but primarily intended for retirement of those with ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT INTERESTS and desire for INTERACTION with COMPANION ANIMALS, GARDENS, NATURE, and NEIGHBORS, through helpful VOLUNTEERING. There can be some consideration for financial adjustments as needed for individuals, through government subsidies and foundation grants.
VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT SKILL & EXPERIENCE SHARING – OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTRIBUTE
Essential to this plan is the requirement for volunteer commitment of a minimum number of hours per week/month. Studies and interviews of current “baby boomer” retirees show overwhelmingly that these people, and most preceding/following, want above all to continue feeling actively involved and valued for their considerable experience, knowledge, skills, and real contributions to their community circles.
Certainly there is ample opportunity, and need, for every kind of vital volunteering within this retirement community: hands on care for dogs, cats, birds in a neighbors’ residence, or in the havens, skilled “handyman upkeep”, gardening of all types, computer record keeping, research, correspondence, fundraising, storytelling for publications, social media announcements, media contacts, contributions of art work, music enrichment, grant writing, Board of Directors.
Too old? Health poor? One of our earliest volunteers, after she suffered strokes, heart attacks, cancer, joint replacement, in a wheel chair on continuous oxygen, still at age 90, nurtured and bottle-fed tiny kittens, smiled and welcomed visitors at the door. Her doctor declared with amazement that Eleanor outlived all projections by at least 14 years because of her felt-value and daily involvement with the work of our organization, simply helping animals and talking/listening to other Elderly visitors -- a TREMENDOUS SERVICE INDEED.
